Domaine Hubert Lignier does things the right way--their way--from farming to fermentation to élevage. They practice "sensible combat" (lutte raisonnee) in the vineyards and don't use herbicides. Their wines are organic but not certified. They don't have to be. They don't need to pay some outsider to come in and tell them what to do. They don't give a damn and the wines are proof of their greatness. Use of new oak barrels is low--up to 50% on the Grand Crus Charmes Chambertin and Clos de la Roche.
What importer Rosenthal Wine Merchant has to say about this wine...
This charming white is sourced from a .60 hectare parcel in Gevrey. The vines were planted in 1943. There are a few (15%) interplanted Chardonnay vines in the mix that contribute roundness and depth. The age of the vines produces a wine of surprising concentration.
