Arnaud Ente is going on 50 years young and very lucky. He was born into a Puligny family. He landed a job with Coche Dury. He then married into a Meursault family with an incredible collection of old vines. He has been farming them and making the wines ever since.
The popular cliché is to say the he is "the new Coche". In a word, he is not - nobody is. Like all great growers he has developed his own unique style which offers both opulence and richness and precise focused linear dynamic tension. There are wonderful untranslatable French wine tasting words that come to mind, like "nervoisité" and "energie terrible".
Arnaud Ente adores Riesling and you can tell drinking his wines. He is not a fan of new oak flavors and uses a remarkable number of older barrels, and even some larger neutral barrels (demi-muids and foudres). Since about 2002 he's had no problems with premature oxidation -- those wax capsules and lessons learned from Coche really help!
