What is this wine?
Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault Clos de la Baronne 2022 is a rare, single-vineyard white Burgundy from one of Meursault’s most esteemed producers. The Lafon family, led by Dominique Lafon, farms biodynamically across Meursault’s finest terroirs, crafting wines celebrated for their depth, texture, and precision. Clos de la Baronne is a monopole—a walled vineyard owned exclusively by the domaine—situated just below Charmes and adjacent to Genevrières. The 2022 vintage was fermented with native yeasts and aged in French oak barrels (approximately 25–30% new) for 12–15 months, capturing the vineyard’s signature blend of richness and minerality.

Why get this wine?
This bottling embodies everything that makes Lafon a benchmark in white Burgundy: meticulous biodynamic farming, restrained yet luxurious winemaking, and a terroir-driven sense of place. The 2022 vintage combines ripe fruit and crystalline freshness, offering immediate charm yet clear aging potential. With its fine texture and energy, Clos de la Baronne stands shoulder to shoulder with many Premier Crus from the village.

What does this wine taste like?
Rich yet vibrant, with aromas of lemon curd, white peach, almond, and hazelnut. The palate is layered and elegant, showing creamy depth balanced by tension and a lingering, saline finish.

When should you drink this wine?
Drink 2025–2038. Serve slightly cool (around 55°F). Perfect with lobster, seared scallops, roast chicken, or mushroom dishes. Decant briefly if young.

Professional Reviews

Burghound

"Smoky floral and essence of pear aromas are trimmed in discreet spice and citrus wisps. There is better mid-palate density to the vibrant and attractively textured medium-bodied flavors that possess slightly better depth and persistence on the firm, well-balanced and lightly austere finale. This seemingly always boxes above its weight and it has done so again in 2022.*Burghound Outstanding!*" -Allen Meadows

"The 2022 Meursault Clos de la Baronne, only distributed in the United States as usual, was the first to be picked on August 24. The light, focused bouquet has apple blossom and grass clippings. The palate is medium-bodied with fine balance, quite taut and fresh with a dash of spice on the finish. Fine." -Neal Martin

"Aromas of sweet orchard fruits and baking spices introduce the 2022 Meursault Clos de la Baronne, with a medium-bodied, soft and ample palate that's round and giving. That makes it the most approachable (but also the least interesting) communal bottling in the cellar." -William Kelley

"Lafon’s holding in Clos de la Barre, in the centre of Meursault, produced over 45 barrels in 2022. The wine has a marvellous equilibrium between richness and tension, with high-toned aromas of lemon peel, green apple, hawthorn blossom and spice. There is both lively acidity and a pleasantly plump feel on the palate. The old vines planted in relatively thin soils over the hard limestone base make this a truly special site that consistently delivers."
