Wines from Napa back then were some of the best the valley ever made and most cost under five dollars. If it came from in-and-around Santa Barbara, it was a fraction of that. As these regions grew in fame and influence, the value of land and the price of wines began to skyrocket. Now all of the fruit from the best vineyards go into bottles that easily fetch over a hundred clams. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThis is where Ian McCaffrey, a Napa native, saw an opportunity. Ian has worked and currently works for some very prestigious Napa estates who in turn put him in contact with the folks who hold the key to great wines: the growers. The fruit for the Coit Tower wines come from vineyards that are amongst the most well known, but which ones exactly he is not allowed to say. Whether it’s Grenache from Santa Barbara County or from Napa Valley, Ian chooses to pick in the dark of morning to keep the grapes cold, helping to retain freshness.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eWhen Ian was thinking about this project he was intrigued by the concept of placing iconic landmarks on the bottles as a visual cue to the wine's origin. He settled on landmarks that have a particular resonance for him. Ian’s best friend lives next to Coit Tower and it's often in the background view when drinking and eating with his friends and family. The label gives the wine a sense of place as well as an emotional connection to this most San Franciscan icon. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eEach wine is made thoughtfully and with great care but that is certainly not the way they are intended to be consumed. These are wines for the most convivial of occasions.
