Collosorbo is a rare Brunello producer with excellent holdings in three of the region’s distinct terroirs: red clay, gray ‘galestro,’ and sandy limestone. Each contributes its own unique characteristics, making the final wine a supremely balanced and approachable Brunello, not unlike a classic Barolo blended from various communes in the Langhe (think Bartolo Mascarello).

Fastidious farming, hand-harvesting, and strict sorting ensure perfectly healthy fruit, and no manipulations are employed in the cellar. Long, indigenous yeast ferments and aging in neutral 12 to 15 hl Slavonian and some French oak barrels preserve the purity and terroir expression.

As an added bonus, Collosorbo is entirely run by females! It was founded by Giovanna Ciacci who continues to run the estate with her two daughters, one in charge of wine-making and the other in charge of farming.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

"The 2018 Rosso di Montalcino is dark and earthy, showing more depth than I’d expect from an early-drinking Rosso, displaying ripe strawberry mixed with sweet spices, wild herbs, and moist earth-mineral inflections, as the 2018 Collosorbo gains richness in the glass. On the palate, I’m finding silky depths of textural black cherry, as it coasts effortlessly across the senses, turning fleshy and sweeter, as red inner florals build. The finish is long, showing a bit of heat yet all composed, as primary dark red fruits linger, along with sweet spices with a twang of mouthwatering acids to balance it all out. Drinking window: 2020 - 2028." -Vinous

"The Collosorbo 2018 Rosso di Montalcino offers an open bouquet that is generous, honest and soft. There is a nice frankness or simplicity to the wine, and that ultimately is its best quality. This Rosso offers good density and richness, making it a good choice for oven-roasted lasagna or ricotta-stuffed pasta shells. There is a hint of ripeness here that recalls sweet or candied cherry. This is a medium-weight red that is not too thin, and certainly not too thick. It's just right for your favorite home-cooked meals. Some 50,000 bottles were released in December 2019." -Monica Larner

"This opens with subtle aromas suggesting underbrush, wild herb and a whiff of toasted nut. Smooth and juicy, the palate shows ripe Morello cherry, pomegranate and ground clove. It's already accessible thanks to polished tannins and fresh acidity. Enjoy through 2022." -Kerin O'keefe
