Denis & Didier Berthollier

Berthollier is a top producer with 50-year-old vines growing on varied, stony, mountain sites. The Berthollier brothers manage their vines with a minimum of inputs (no insecticides, fungicides, or weedkillers), growing grass between the rows and their winemaking focuses on allowing the terroir to speak. They use only indigenous yeasts (and minimal sulfur), and rack and bottle following the lunar cycle to keep the wine clear without any manipulations. They even vinify fruit from the different soil types separately.

But despite their great terroir and hard work, the Berthollier’s wine is priced for everyday drinking. It’s one of those wonderful but rare opportunities to get a wine at an everyday price that you can open without considering the cost, but that you can take the time to think about if you're in the mood for something more contemplative.
