They were among the original “Rhône Rangers” who set out to prove that Syrah and other Rhône varieties could make great wine in California. They took clippings from vines in Hermitage and planted them in the local soils (rich in granite and volcanic stone), farmed them sustainably, and made wines with seductive Syrah fruit, stony minerality, and a power that makes sense given the Hermitage pedigree.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eIn addition to blazing new trails, they also worked with California’s “traditional” variety, Zinfandel. We don't often think of Zin as an age-worthy wine — most of it is made to be drunk young.
