Domaine de la Tour du Bon

Bandol terroir is, of course, the perfect terroir for rosé. The sun, the salt air, cool nights and mountain breezes. Varied soils with a recurring limestone theme. A grape, in Mourvèdre, able to express all of that beautifully when young, and also capable of aging into something very special.

But great terroir is never enough. You need the human touch to supervise the fruit’s journey from vine to bottle in a way that expresses that great terroir. Agnès Henry is that human at the Tour du Bon. She is responsible for the choices that make the wine. Her parents bought the domaine in 1968. When she first took over, Agnès worked with a hired winemaker. She took her time, learned, and when she was ready to fly solo, she took over. The wines soared.

She is just as patient with her wines as she was with herself, and it shows in the glass. Her rosé has the powerful fruit of the Provençal sun and the finely textured structure of the limestone bedrock. Vibrant acidity, a hint of salty air: the terroir shines in a way that is easy going, if all you want is a summer sipper, but that promises to evolve beautifully if you feel like laying some down.
