Technically it is Languedoc-Roussillon, but it bears little resemblance to what any of us think of when we imagine vacationing in the South of France.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eFor one thing, it is not particularly warm, the soils are not particularly deep or fertile, and things just don't grow here all that well. This is a scrabbly, gnarly, rocky, windy, forbidding part of France that was probably terrifying back in the Middle Ages.
