Domaine Ogereau

Emanuel Ogereau is one of the most talented vignerons in the Loire, but it feels like a secret. Since taking over his family domaine in 2014, he has been hard at work transforming what was already a high-quality family estate focused on old-school sweet Chenin into one of the best sources for laser focused, terroir- transparent, bone dry wine.

The Ogereau family has deep roots in the Anjou Noir — the portion of Anjou that is loaded with schiste soils. Emanuel’s great great grandfather first planted vines here in the 1890s, though Emanuel’s father Vincent was the first in the family to estate-bottle. He earned a reputation for beautifully articulate, honeyed dessert wines under the Coteaux-du-Layon appellation.

But when it was time for Emanuel to join the winery, he set out to craft bright, fresh, dry wines that transmit the unique mineral signature of Chenin on schist, inspired by friends and neighbors like Thibaud Boudignon, Richard Leroy and Tessa Laroche of Domaine aux Moines. In that same vein, he immediately converted to organic viticulture and today is working fully biodynamically.
