But because Melissa Genevieve Nelsen dedicated her entire project to the single-minded pursuit of exceptional bubbles, her Genevieve Méthode Cap Classique Blanc de Blancs 2021 delivers a level of value that is almost unheard of. In fact, when we featured this beauty at our last big tasting event, it was the clear crowd favorite and we completely sold out of every single bottle on hand.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMelissa actually took a wild, unconventional path to get here. She worked as a pilot before landing in the wine world! After learning the ropes at a local estate, she mentored under the legendary Ross Gower of Klein Constantia, completely falling in love with the craft and launching her own brand back in 2008.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHer first vintage in 2008, and by 2017 she and her partner Leon, a skilled viticulturist, established a permanent home for the brand on a beautiful farm in the Van der Stel Pass on the Bott River, a mountainous area in the Overberg region of South Africa's Western Cape. Here, they grow their fruit using regenerative techniques, acting as proud wardens of the land for future generations. Interestingly, Melissa only discovered years later that her middle name, Genevieve, translates to White Wave or Sea Foam in Welsh, which is the most perfect coincidence for a producer of premium sparkling wine.
