Bouchard is one of the larger land owners and negociants (purchasing fruit from other farmers) in Burgundy, but that means that the wines are often terrific value. 50 or 60 years ago, long before the Cote d'Or was full of famous domaines and winemakers whose wines fetch hundreds or thousands of dollars, most of the Burgundy you would find at cafés and bistros was from negociants.

"More discreet though still moderately generous wood treatment suffuses the aromas of baked dark berries where copious amounts of floral and spice influence add breadth. The oak does show up on the palate as well though it's not really enough to detract from the wonderfully textured medium weight plus flavors that are also blessed with an abundance of dry extract on the youthfully austere finale. This beauty is also clearly in need of extended cellaring."

"The 2018 Echézeaux Grand Cru, from the Combe d’Orveaux lieu-dit, has a tightly wound, slightly static bouquet compared to the Clos de Vougeot. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and good weight in the mouth, and the 50% to 70% whole-cluster fruit lends complexity on the finish. This is a backward Echezeaux that needs several years in bottle. Finely crafted." -Vinous
