Cascina Ca’ Gialla is a small family farm based in Canale, Roero, a few miles north of Alba and the Barolo zone. Marco Porello is the third generation proprietor, and he is quietly making classic examples of the regional wines in an “traditional” manner that is also now very much in fashion. All his wines are fermented with native yeasts, generally in tanks, and then moved to barrels, mostly large botti, for ageing. Marco is heavily involved in the vineyards, where farming is done without chemicals and is moving towards organic certification soon. His Barolo comes from vineyards in Serralunga and Novello, and the blending of different parcels with slightly different terroirs helps achieve that classic style that harkens to the Baroli of the 1960s and 70s.
