Giovanni Canonica makes tiny quantities of Barolo from old vines in Grinzane Cavour, farmed organically and vinified traditionally. This 2016 comes from family-owned parcels near the Paiagallo cru.

Fermented in concrete and aged in old oak, it’s a delicate yet structured Barolo. The vintage’s balance and Canonica’s restrained style yield a floral, age-worthy wine of quiet intensity.

Cult producer Canonica, who for years worked only a small parcel in Paiagallo in the village of Barolo, inherited 50 year-old vines in the commune of Grinzane Cavour and produces from them an extremely sought after wine bearing the name of the village.

Antonio Galloni

AG 91
"The 2016 Barolo del Comune di Grinzane Cavour is an attractive, delicate wine. Crushed flowers, spice and sweet red berry/purplish fruit grace this silky, light to medium-bodied Barolo. This is an especially floral, gracious Barolo that hides its 15.5% alcohol well." -Antonio Galloni
