We were recently fortunate enough to have owner Andrea Piccin visit the shop to share his newest releases, and they are some of the most intellectually engaging Italian wines we've tasted this year.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Piccin family actually hails from Montepulciano, where they made great wine at Salcheto, before relocating to Vulture in 2004, drawn by the region's distinct terroir. Today, brothers Andrea and Lorenzo run the estate with a philosophy that reflects their terroir obsession. As Andrea told us: \"Things that can make great Barolo and Burgundy can also make great Aglianico.\"\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHis terroir obsession opened up a fascinating conversation, and an important reminder that nothing is ever simple when it comes to wine. I've written about how Vulture, with its pure volcanic soils, tends to produce Aglianico that's lithe and acid-driven, in contrast to Taurasi, where volcanic soils sit on limestone and iron and produce something far more structured, like a Barolo.
