Vadin-Plateau
Yann Vadin of Vadin-Plateau is a young grower intent on treating Meunier with utmost respect, demonstrating that it can make absolutely top Champagnes. His family has been farming in the Marne Valley village of Cumières for nine generations. But despite all that history and tradition, they seem to be an open-minded bunch. Yann’s dad gave up herbicides nearly 30 years ago and, when Yann came home in 2012, Papa was ready to hand over the reins. It’s worked out beautifully. Yann began converting to organic farming right away. He studied and emphasized the terroir, lowering dosage and allowing the soil and earth to balance the intense fruit from their south-facing vines.Once the conversion was complete, Yann introduced single-parcel wines. Asking both his Father and Grandfather to select their favorite terroir within the families seven hectar holdings. As preference goes, each chose a different plot. Further highlighting the difference between them, they chose to plant each with a different variety. Years later, the results are an intriguing study into the subtleties of his family’s terroir and the beauty of Marne Valley fruit.
