Il Marroneto
Il Marroneto is one of the oldest estates in Montalcino. Founded by Iacopo’s grandfather Giuseppe in 1974, at the time there were less than 30 wineries in the fledgling DOC (today there are more than 200). Iacopo is the third generation to make wine from the family vineyard. Soils here are a blend of limestone, sandstone and the local schistous clay known as “Galestro”. Il Marroneto sits at over 400 meters of elevation in the cooler northern section of Montalcino. The combination of elevation and exposure protects the vines from the growing heat of a warming planet and helps to give the wines their signature freshness and lift.

In the cellar, they are firmly old-school. Fermentation takes place in giant 40hl vats before being transferred into the traditional 26hl botti for 36 months for the normale and over 42 months for the Riserva. Both wines get a full year of bottle aging before release.
