This old-school property sits at the southwest corner of the Montalcino zone, at about 350 meters above sea, and the vineyards face south towards Maremma and the coast. This situation provides warm, dry breezes that allow them to farm their vines and olive trees with both organic and sustainable practices. The 20 hectares of vines are entirely Sangiovese and made up of massale selections of the original plantings from 1930. All fermentations are done in glass-lined cement tanks and aging is exclusively in large, Slavonian oak casks. Current winemaker Filippo Paoletti learned his craft from the former winemaker Franco Bernabei (of Fontodi and Felsina) as well as the Sangiovese master Giulio Gambelli (Soldera, Biondi Santi and of course Montevertine) and his style reflects their influence. The focus is on the elegance and transparency of Tuscany’s native variety; silky red fruits, earth and minerals always shine through.
