Les Granges Paquenesses

Loreline Laborde’s isn’t a cult producer — yet. Or at least, not here. In France, her wines are hunted down by classicist and cutting-edge drinkers alike. Like many Jura producers, her wines arrive in the States in minute quantities.

After completing her formal oenological training and working for the likes of the Rhône’s Laurent Charvin, she left the bustling Mediterranean city of Montpellier in favor of the tiny Jura hamlet of Tourmont in pursuit of a simple farming life. There, with just 2.5ha of vines, she was able to fulfill her dream of making her own wine. Despite her outsider status, she has a keen understanding of the Jura’s unique native grapes and diverse terroirs.

She called her domaine Les Granges Paquenesses, and since 2010 has added tiny parcels to her holdings, bringing her grand total to 3.5ha. Biodiversity is the name of the game — she has chickens, a horse, and vegetable gardens interspersed with the vines. Farming is biodynamic, sulfur is applied judiciously, on an as-needed basis. Her style is rustic but precise, with lots of minerality and freshness.
