Mas Granier

Mas Granier is a small family-owned winery in the tiny hamlet of Aspères in the southern Languedoc, about halfway between Montpellier and Nîmes in the department of Gard. This is a very old-fashioned mas purchased in 1945 by Marcel Granier. He has eight children; two work at the farm today with their kids. Not much has changed since Marcel purchased it just after the Second World War. Every year the grapes are hand-harvested by the large family and lots of their friends. There is a traditional maceration and they use immense old oak foudres for aging the wine. The soil is clay and limestone with lots of little white pebbles they call cailloutis.
