Michel Autran

Michel Autran makes some of the most flat-out beautiful Vouvrays We've tasted in the last five years. Which is particularly amazing, since his first vintage was only in 2013.

Michel practiced emergency medicine for twenty years; that is until the wine bug bit. He took gigs with top Loire producers, such as Francois Pinon, and learned to make Chenin. Then he bought a hectare or so of vines to farm his own grapes and make his own wines. Over the years, he's slowly grown his domaine to nearly four hectares. He's small grower!

Michel, like many of the new wave of super-culty Chenin producers, farms organically and makes his wine with as little intervention as possible. He may be a scientist by training, but his winemaking is not technical or industrial. In fact, if his wines are a scientific study of anything, they are an experiment in terroir.
