The wines of Domaine de Saint Pierre are about craftsmanship, elegance, and tradition, but, above all, they are about deliciousness. Fabrice Dodane (owner/winemaker) gets his Savagnins to stand like ballet dancers en pointe, perfectly suspended between aromatic, pleasantly pulpy yellow fruit of ouille wine on the one side and seriously funky, earthy, curry/mushroom-under-a-rock-in-the-dirt sous voile wine on the other.All the way through the range, from the ouille "Autrement" to the "de Voile" bottling and up into the gorgeous Vin Jaune, these are Savagnins of rare freshness and radiance. Whether you are a voile lover, a voile novice, or are merely voile-curious, there is something for you here, and that's not a statement that we can often make about these peculiar, particular wines that seem more often to choose their proponents more than the other way around.How Fabrice achieves this perfect balance is, as far as we're concerned, magic. Magic and experience: he had worked for the estate's previous proprietor for over twenty years when he took over in 2011. By that time he had been working organically for nine years, and begun introducing biodynamic methods in 2008. But he does not self-identify as a natural winemaker. Instead, he prefers to focus on his place—the limestone- and marl-rich hills of Arbois. Here we believe they find one of their prettiest expressions.
