Rostaing is one of the great masters of Cote Rotie, and this is wine he produces entirely from vineyards within Cote Rotie. Some of the grapes come from young vines in Tupin; others from the lower slopes of the northern part of the AOC, which tend to produce a less structured, easier-drinking wine. The wine is made in a traditional Cote Rotie style, with a significant portion of whole clusters.

Rostaing inherited prize parcels in Cote Rotie from his father-in-law, Albert Dervieux, and uncle, Marius Gentaz. He went on to become a legend of his own. His son, Pierre, took over in 2015 and pushed the domaine in a more traditional direction. The high quality has gotten even higher.

Rostaing, having inherited vines from both Gentaz and Albert Dervieux Thaize (another traditionalist legend, whose 1983 is the greatest Cote Rotie I've ever tasted, ahead of even top vintage Gentaz!), was perhaps destined for greatness. But while his wines have always been good, I was not really convinced that they belonged in Cote Rotie’s top tier until his son Pierre took over a few years ago. Now the wines are sensational. Single vineyards from Cote Blonde and La Landonne are special; the Ampodium is a superb blend designed for early drinking.
