Vincent Cuillier

Champagne is often framed as a region defined by tradition, but its most compelling energy today comes from growers who are quietly rethinking how vines, land, and wine relate to one another. Vincent Cuillier, one of the most exciting young growers on the scene, embodies this approach. He’s a farmer-first Champagne grower whose work we have been following for the last few years and who seems poised for a breakout moment.

Cuillier tends vines in the village of Pouillon, in the Massif de Saint-Thierry on the northern edge of the Montagne de Reims. Though still overseeing production for his family’s Champagne Cuillier label, since 2015 Vincent has been isolating what he considers his most unique and expressive parcels to bottle, in minuscule quantities, under his own name.

His guiding phrase, “fait à la main par nature” (“handmade by nature”), captures that philosophy precisely. Cuillier’s viticulture is rooted in regenerative farming, with full cover crops, low- to no-till practices, and homemade composts designed to increase soil life and organic matter. Most notably, he has embraced vitiforestry, the intentional integration of trees within the vineyards. Cuillier views the vine as one of agriculture’s most sensitive plants, thriving best when it exists as part of a complex, balanced ecosystem rather than being forced into a monoculture.
