Von Hovel

When Max Von Kunow took over his family domaine, it was producing mid-century styled, fruit-forward, opulent wines. Wine-making was a little hurried. There were no—or very few—dry wines. Max transformed things. Farming became organic. The wines were allowed to ferment slowly and naturally. Dry wines were introduced. The wines became more crystalline, more crackling.

Now Max's wines follow suit with other Saar greats: Egon Muller and Peter Lauer. His full line up of wines from intoxicating Auslese to bone dry Grosses Gewachs, including a stellar Scharzhofberger example, are a great entry way into the region. All of this made even more possible thanks to his mid-century-esque (as in, affordable) prices.
