Lyne Tremblay-Marchive founded the Domaine des Malandes with her husband Jean-Bernard in 1986, combining various family parcels (the Tremblay name is well known in Chablis) to form an estate of 27 hectares including all the levels of Chablis, from Petit to Grand Cru. Today Lyne has stepped back from day to day operations and her children, led by daughter Amandine, are at the helm. Indeed this family operation is indicative of the encouraging trend in Chablis and Burgundy at large that sees women increasingly taking the lead in both the vineyards and the cellar. Lyne herself is a longtime proponent of sustainable farming, striving to reduce or eliminate the need for chemicals in the vines. That’s not easy in frost and mildew prone Chablis. But the work continues and today much of the estate is now entirely organic while the rest is in conversion.
