Fog and marine air stretch the season so long that picking here often runs into mid-October, which is why the wines come out taut and saline rather than broad. Richard and Mary Kay Alfaro traded an artisan bread business for an old apple farm in Corralitos in 1997; their son Ryan now makes the wines with a deliberately light hand.
