His vineyard sits near the remote township of Annapolis, five miles and two ridgelines in from the Pacific. That puts it close enough for the ocean's cooling but just outside the fog line, on gentle southwest-facing slopes of Goldridge loam that the estate compares to the lie of Burgundy's grand crus. For this bottling Brown picked only three lots: the upper ridge of clone 777 and the heart of the 115 and 667 blocks. The 2022 harvest was warm, and the wine is bigger than the last few vintages, but mouthwatering acidity and a rugged texture keep it in check. Only 860 cases were made.
