The estate sits about five miles and two ridge lines in from the Pacific, just outside the fog line. Its vines grow on southwest-facing Goldridge loam, on gentle slopes that Thomas Rivers Brown compares to Burgundy's grand cru sites, a rugged parcel he found in 2000. As those vines have aged, they ripen fully at lower sugar levels. That has taken the house style from big to refined without losing the power Annapolis is known for. The producer's stated goal for this cuvée is to overdeliver for its price, and they call 2023 an overachiever.
