Beaumont's vines sit on the western side of the valley, about five miles from the ocean, in ancient shale with gravelly topsoils over a heavy clay base that holds moisture through the dry months. The family bought the farm in 1974, and Sebastian Beaumont has run the cellar since 2004. It's the oldest wine cellar in the region, with a history going back to the 1700s. The goal hasn't changed: capture the purity of the grape and make a great example of cooler-climate Chenin.
