Franco-Españolas was founded in Logroño in 1890 by Frédéric Anglade Saurat, of the Bordeaux firm Anglade, in partnership with Spanish investors: phylloxera had destroyed French vineyards and French winemaking know-how came over the mountains to Rioja, which is the arrangement the name itself records. The Royal line is one of the house's two flagship reds, the lighter and more elegant counterpart to Bordon, given the extended American-oak maturation and long bottle rest that traditional Rioja Reservas received in that era — the practice, combined with Tempranillo's high acidity and the cool cellars on the Ebro, is why bottles from the 1960s are still worth opening. Blend details from a wine made this long ago simply aren't documented, and we won't pretend otherwise. This came from a private collection, so stand it upright for two days, decant slowly and completely off the sediment, and pour it as soon as it's open.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"WineWise [WIS]","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":43803655372835,"sku":"SF-4-WIS--081826-37","price":189.99,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0044\/1208\/0163\/files\/DSC-0003_771f6c08-6b35-4f27-a3fc-8faca87174af.jpg?v=1789701446","url":"https:\/\/sf.flatiron-wines.com\/products\/bodegas-franco-espanolas-rioja-royal-reserva-1964-750ml","provider":"Flatiron SF","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
