It's the regular Napa Cabernet, not the Special Selection, and the fill sits at the base of the neck, which is a good sign for a bottle this old. Chuck and his parents, Lorna and Charlie Sr., opened the winery in 1972 with 240 cases of Cabernet, after asking a 19-year-old Chuck to go \"all in\" with them. In those early days he and his father pruned the vines with shears bearing their initials and ate lunches Lorna made for them. The family's Napa roots go back much further, to Lorna's Glos and Stice ancestors making wine in the valley in 1858. Even the name is local history: it comes from Rancho Caymus, a 19th-century Mexican land grant. If you only know modern Caymus, this bottle shows you where it started.
