Caymus introduced Special Selection in 1975, just three years after Charlie and Lorna Wagner and their son Chuck opened the winery with 240 cases of Cabernet. The family's Rutherford roots go back much further. Carl Wagner, an immigrant from Alsace, bought farmland there in 1906, and in the 1960s Charlie pulled out the fruit orchards and planted a Cabernet clone he got from Stags Leap grower Nathan Fay. By 1984 Chuck was running all the farming and winemaking, and Caymus is still 100% family-owned.
