Alain Moueix decided to go biodynamic in 2002, which was a real break with Bordeaux convention back then. The Guillard family, who own the estate now, are just as committed to biodynamics, and Moueix stayed on as consultant for this vintage. The 2020 growing season threw everything at the vines. A nearly tropical spring brought heavy mildew pressure, then irregular flowering and drought cut the crop to 40 hectolitres per hectare. The grapes came in early, between 7 and 21 September, fully ripe. The blend is 87% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Franc from the limestone plateau just north-west of the village and a hillside of limestone and clay. Only 30% of the barrels were new, so the oak supports the fruit rather than covering it up.
