The 1.6-hectare plot sits on clay and limestone in Comblanchien, just south of Prémeaux and Nuits-Saint-Georges. Comblanchien is known for very chalky ground, and the plot is shaped like a hat, which is where the name comes from. The Clos has been part of the domaine since 1891, when wine merchant Jules Belin bought the property and enlarged it with Clos du Chapeau and Clos des Forêts Saint-Georges. The estate has farmed organically since 2000, with AB certification since 2014, and began biodynamic farming in 2003; Géraldine Godot has run the technical side since 2014. 2024 kept growers on edge. A slow, cool, damp flowering from around 10 June cost some clusters, but the ones that survived were well aired, and warm, fairly dry weather from August carried them through to ripeness.
