Montée de Tonnerre's slopes face south and southwest over shallow Kimmeridgian limestone threaded with veins of blue clay, and its elevation gives the wine the iodine-like minerality and balance that make it famous. The 2023 comes from two lieux-dits within the vineyard, about two-thirds Chapelot and the rest Pied d'Aloup. It was a warmer year, but this bottling still has impressive texture and serious structure, and it will easily reward 15 years or more in the cellar. The house story is a family one: François Raveneau founded the domaine in 1948 by combining his own parcels with those of his wife's family.
