Although this wine sees a good amount of new oak, the oak influenced aromatics are well integrated an unobtrusive. That being said you would be well rewarded for letting this wine spend some time in the cellar. The wines of Meo Camuzet some times need a few years to really shine.

Professional Reviews

BH 93
"Much more subtle oak treatment sets off the pretty and airy aromas of various red berries, lavender and soft earth scents. The generously proportioned and attractively detailed middle weight flavors are prettier than they are deep though this is not to say that they lack density on the persistent and youthfully austere finale. I quite like this and particularly for its sense of harmony but good as it is, it's clearly not at the same level as the Rognets. However, if the cuvée of Grand Maupertuis (reviewed just below) is included here, I would expect that to improve the overall quality."

"The 2017 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a detailed, quite elegant bouquet of expressive wild strawberry, cassis and subtle violet aromas, Vosne-like in style. The mineral component becomes more palpable with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, rounded and even corpulent in the mouth, layers of lightly spiced red fruit merging with orange peel and brown spices toward the harmonious and quite persistent finish. This is a very finely crafted Clos de Vougeot from Méo-Camuzet." -Vinous

"The 2017 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru unfurls in the glass with an attractive bouquet of raspberries, red cherries, incense, dark chocolate and cedary new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and pure with a comparatively open-knit profile for Méo's Clos Vougeot, though there is plenty of fine-grained structuring tannin held in reserve, concluding with a nicely focused but youthfully firm finish. Longtime fans of Domaine Méo-Camuzet will be delighted by the 2017 vintage at this address, as the domaine has produced an attractive collection of charming, supple wines that are beautifully defined by site but which will also be unusually approachable out of the gates. While many of the wines had been racked not long before my tasting, they were still expressive, and I suspect they will prove even more satiny and gourmand in bottle. Méo began picking on September 6, finishing just over a week later. Like many others, he reports that the wines fleshed out considerably during élevage and is thinking of bottling them a little earlier than usual." -Robert Parker

"The Méos have two parcels inside the Clos, with the larger of them next to the château, totalling 3ha in all. This is a plush, ripe, substantially oaked wine with 80% new wood, lots of red berry sweetness and a chalky undertone. A wine that reflects its warm vintage."

"This is all about finesse, the velvety texture embracing flavors of cherry, raspberry, earth, mineral and spice. The spice notes intensify, with sandalwood and green olive extending on the firmly structured, complex finish. Jam- packed with flavor and personality, this needs time. Best from 2023 through 2045. What importer Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant has to say about this wine...

Blend: Pinot Noir
Producer: Domaine Méo-Camuzet
Soil: Clay, Limestone
Farming: Organic (practicing)
Bunches are gently carried to the winery, and then rigorously sorted on conveyor belts, with anywhere from 5-20% of the crop discarded to better ensure quality
Grapes macerate on their skins from 3-5 days at low temperatures
Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled concrete vats, lasting for 2-3 weeks
Only small doses of sulfur are used
Punch-downs occur only at the end of the vinification process
Barrel Regime: Careful consideration is given to the barrels and the percentage of new oak used: the percentages vary according to the terroir and the vintage. Méo-Camuzet works in close association with coopers Maison François Frères to find the best diversity of local oaks within the same forest—a necessity in capturing the nuances of each cuvée. Méo has also experimented with the occasional integration of Hungarian oak into their collection.
Wines are racked and blended in vats 3-4 weeks before bottling
Wines are bottled (unfiltered) by gravity about 17 months after the harvest
