Two generations ago the Roulots were known for Burgundian brandy and eau de vie, and Guy Roulot used that distilling money to buy small plots of vines in Meursault. By the 1970s he was known for bottling Chardonnay separately by lieu-dit, when few others did. When he died unexpectedly in the early 1980s, his son Jean-Marc was working as an actor in Paris. Today Jean-Marc makes the wines from certified-organic vineyards, and his Meursault is bright, chiseled and restrained rather than rich, built to age a long time. If you love Roulot, this is a chance to taste one specific site through that lens.
