Green \u0026amp; Red takes its name from the ground itself: red chert soils veined with green serpentine, over Sobrante gravelly loam. Jay Heminway founded the estate here in 1969, and the vineyards are farmed organically. Chiles Canyon is the cross-section bottling, drawing on all the estate blocks, so it shows the house style in one glass — hand-sorted and destemmed into open-top fermenters, three days of cold soak, a roughly ten-day fermentation, then sixteen months in equal parts American and French oak with only a fifth of the barrels new. 2023 was California's long, cool, late-ripening season, which suits this altitude; the wine came in at 14.9% with plenty of lift. Tobin Heminway runs the place now with winemaker Aaron Whitlatch.
