It is named for Jay Heminway, who founded the estate in 1969 and farmed these red chert and green serpentine soils until his death in 2019; his daughter Tobin makes it now with winemaker Aaron Whitlatch. The fruit is destemmed onto a shaker table and hand-sorted, cold-soaked three days, fermented about ten days, then aged in a mix of American and French oak, 20% new. 2019 was a generous but balanced Napa season, and the wine finished at 14.9% without tasting hot.
