He didn't retire until 2001, so this bottle comes from his era. He preferred Alexander Valley's soft, velvety style to the more tannic Napa Cabernets. The 1991 is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon at a modest 13.6% alcohol. After three decades it has moved into the savory, cedar-and-leather stage that people cellar Cabernet to reach, and it still has fresh acidity.
