The Curator started in 2011, when an American grocer asked Bartholomew Broadbent's team to find a natural wine with real quality at a modest cost. They went to Swartland, in South Africa's Western Cape, where a lot of excellent old-vine fruit was disappearing into anonymous commercial blends, and they still buy from long-established farms there. This one is hand-harvested from bush vines on granite and slate, farmed sustainably and made with minimal intervention. Broadbent chooses the blend himself every year, so it changes with the vintage. The 2024 is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Shiraz and 15% Pinotage, and it comes out a little more agile than the 2023, with a peppery lift.
