The farming is certified organic and biodynamic. Bertrand grew up in Fleurie and never planned to make wine. He studied commerce, wandered the French Alps and worked in wine bars before coming home to learn from Jean Foillard, Yvon Métras and Jacques Neauport, Jules Chauvet's quiet right hand. The name, Coup d'Folie (\"a fit of madness\"), is a joke.
