Château Latour-Martillac is a historic Graves Cru Classé owned by the Kressmann family since 1930. The 2020 red blend—roughly 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 10% Petit Verdot—comes from deep gravel soils in Martillac. Farming is sustainable, with precise parcel selection and vinification.

Fermented in stainless steel and aged 12 months in French oak (35–40% new), the wine is structured and mineral. It offers dark fruit, graphite, cedar, and firm yet polished tannins. A classic, ageworthy Pessac-Léognan red.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 95
"The 2020 Latour-Martillac offers an enticing bouquet of black fruit infused with black olive, background citric scents lending a bit of zest. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, well-integrated oak and impressive depth. This is a very assured and confident Latour-Martillac that continues their strong run of form. Perhaps one of the dark horses of the appellation in 2020, this should be on your primeur shopping list." -Neal Martin

Robert Parker

"Complex aromas of cherries, raspberries, rose petals, bay leaf and spices introduce the 2020 Latour Martillac, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy, lively wine with good depth and excellent balance. It represents an improvement on the 2019." -William Kelley

Decanter

"Chocolate, liquorice, some bitter points that accompany the fruit from beginning to end, this is one of the best in terms of focus and precision. There is clearly excellent colour extraction, you get real glass-staining purple, but the flavours are more austere and tannic than the colour might suggest. Well chosen coffee and chocolate expression that remains elegant and pointed. Good stuff, needs time, but will grow into a classic elegant wine. A yield of 38hl/ha."

Wine Spectator

WS 91
"Juicy and compact, with a solid core of dark currant and blackberry fruit waiting to unfurl, while sweet tobacco, tar and bittersweet cocoa notes flash around. Reveals a light cedary thread on the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2033."

Wine Enthusiast

WE 94
"This Graves Grand Cru Classe has produced an elegantly rich wine. Still very young, its powerful tannins mask the black fruits and acidity. As the wine matures, fruit and richness will come forward. The wine is worth aging for many years." -Roger Voss
