Ghislaine Barthod is one of Chambolle-Musigny’s most respected growers, crafting precise, terroir-driven Pinot Noir from old vines. Aux Combottes, a Premier Cru bordering Les Charmes, offers fine drainage and limestone-rich soils.

The 2022 was vinified traditionally and aged in French oak for refinement. It captures the vineyard’s hallmark elegance and depth, standing as a distinguished expression within Barthod’s celebrated range of crus.

Professional Reviews

Burghound

"A more elegant, even perfumed, nose offers up an array of airy red cherry, spice and a hint of poached plum. The slightly richer medium-bodied flavors possess a caressing mid-palate that contrasts with the nicely vibrant, detailed and youthfully austere finale. I like the balance and while this should certainly repay up to a decade of keeping, it should be reasonably approachable after only 5-sh years."

"The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Aux Combottes 1er Cru comes from the Domaine's youngest vines…although they are still 55 years old! It has a well-defined bouquet with dark berries and bay leaves gradually unfurling in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with quite "thick" tannins that give this Chambolle weight and presence, though it does not have the finesse of, say, Les Fuées. There’s a bit more sinew here." -Neal Martin

What importer Rosenthal Wine Merchant has to say about this wine...

Barthod owns an ultra-tiny slice of this premier cru which lies in the center of the appellation—in fact, it accounts for the smallest volume of wine among all her traditionally bottled holdings. While “Aux Combottes” may lack the intense, penetrating minerality or the breathtaking poise of the greatest crus in the village, it offers a prettiness that is very Chambolle.
