Kumusha: Deliciousness in “Your Home”

We are so used to translating French or Italian words and phrases in this newsletter that it is quite refreshing to turn to the Zimbabwean language known as Shona. “Kumusha” means “your home”, and it is with that phraseology that we are introduced to the world of international star sommelier Tinashe Nyamudoka.

“DEI” has taken on negative connotations in certain corners of the internet, but in the world of wine, diversity is an essential concept that is at the core of what we do at Flatiron. The world in which you drink the same wine every day is boring. In that world, you’re just grocery shopping and getting a little tipsy.

In our world, the diversity of the wine world is something to explore and experience. It’s what makes wine so much of an adventure. It enriches our own experience of living – and hopefully helps out those of us, from across the world, that try to make a living from this noble beverage.

Kumusha produces a range of South African minimal-intervention wines that are very budget-friendly. They are tasteful, delicious wines that showcase what this great African country, with its climate so close to the Mediterranean’s or California’s, but with its own distinctive set of soils and local traditions, can produce.

We love the Cabernet for its pure, fruit-focused approach to the grape. The Pet Nat is a sheer pleasure. The Sauvignon Blanc pays homage to a white wine grape that is especially suited to local conditions, giving us something roughly halfway between Sancerre and Marlborough.
Please give these a try:
