The combination of warmth, bright sun and cooling influences from ocean and altitude mean that winemakers are able to deliver a diverse range of premium styles of red and white wines. From rich, powerful Cabernet Sauvignons to elegant, lively Pinot Noirs and crisp, aromatic Sauvignon Blancs to Chardonnays to please every palate, the Golden State seems to have no limit on what it can offer.
This diverse and highly favorable climate permit wines to be grown throughout the state's 147 designated AVAs. Trying to learn them all can be a bit overwhelming, but be sure not miss Sonoma County, the Sierra Foothills, and don't forget the world-famous and America’s most celebrated wine region, Napa Valley.
