Trediberri + Little Wines = Deliciousness
Whenever we get excited by a Barolo producer – and who isn’t excited by Trediberri? – we always ask: what about their Little Wines?
Alright, let’s back up: Who is Trediberri, and what are Little Wines?
Trediberri is a couple, Stefania and NIcolas Oberto, making Barolo in La Morra, the village known for its elegance and pretty aromatics. A few years ago, our colleagues in New York “discovered” them, when they showed up at the New York shop and told us they were looking for a U.S. importer. After tasting their unbelievably good wines, we put them in touch with some good people and the rest is history. Trediberri has since become the latest Barolo sensation in America (not to mention places like Sweden and Japan…)
Little Wines, as we’ve said before, are the wines that people in Piedmont actually drink. They are not Barolos and Barbarescos (for the tourists), but rather wines named for grape varieties, like Dolcetto, Barbera and Nebbiolo. Go to any wine bar or restaurant in the Langhe, and you’ll see all the locals drinking these wines. They are delicious, fresh, incredibly drinkable, perfect with food, and quite affordable.
Today we are pleased to put these two concepts together and offer two Little Wines from Trediberri. There is a no-oak Barbera that offers excellent fruit intensity, which the Obertos attribute to a green harvest (which they don’t normally do for their other wines).
The Nebbiolo, meanwhile, will surprise those of you used to drinking Nebbiolo in the flavor of Barolo or Barbaresco. This one is, like the Barbera, completely unoaked, and is pleasantly light and fruity. But don’t worry: the fruit is real Nebbiolo fruit, with all of its natural cherry-esque gorgeousness.
Get a few bottles of each, and drink them with anything or on their own. Feel free to chill a little.
