Coltibuono has long been engaged in the study
and recovery of the ancient varieties typical of these areas through the cultivation of historic vines such as Mammolo, Ciliegiolo, Pugnitello, Colorino, Sanforte, Malvasia Nera, Canaiolo and Foglia Tonda.
The use of indigenous yeasts and natural fermentations contribute to the expression of the complexity and harmonious integration of the varietals.

The Badia a Coltibuono estate was originally established as a monastery in 1051. Coltibuono can roughly be translated to “Good Cultivation” or “Good Harvest". Currently being run by fifth generation winemakers, the winery produces a number of different Chianti bottlings in various styles.
