What is this wine?
Egly-Ouriet’s Champagne 1er Cru “Les Vignes de Bisseuil” NV is a rare Blanc de Noirs-style Champagne crafted exclusively from Pinot Noir grown in the Premier Cru village of Bisseuil, east of Aÿ in the Montagne de Reims. Francis Egly, a pioneer of grower Champagne, farms his vines biodynamically and vinifies with minimal intervention. The wine is fermented and aged in oak barrels, then aged an extended 60 months on lees before disgorgement, producing a rich yet remarkably refined Champagne of depth and precision.
Why get this wine?
Egly-Ouriet is one of Champagne’s elite grower-producers, and Les Vignes de Bisseuil offers a unique expression of terroir distinct from the estate’s Ambonnay holdings. This cuvée combines Egly’s signature intensity and texture with an extra edge of minerality and tension from Bisseuil’s chalky soils. It’s an extraordinary Champagne for collectors and connoisseurs—generous, complex, and unmistakably Egly.
What does this wine taste like?
Aromas of redcurrant, pear, toasted brioche, and crushed stone lead to a structured, layered palate of citrus, orchard fruit, and hazelnut. The mousse is fine and creamy, and the finish long, saline, and precise.
When should you drink this wine?
Drink now through 2032. Serve chilled but not cold (around 50°F). Exceptional with roasted poultry, seafood, or aged Comté.
